New Notion- All Steel Flower spool holder!

Yesterday, our owner brought out yet another neato Quilt Market find, this hand crafted flower thread cone holder, made from steel scraps and polished to a beautiful deep brown bronze.

Well, I just had spent three days diligently cutting my Bonnier Hunter of Quiltville.com strips and squares from years and years of scraps! Wow, what a job.  Okay, promise to self.....cut my strips immediately after a quilt project like Bonnie suggested at the Guild lecture that I saw her at (Still my happiest quilty day this year). That will make the next strip cutting session easier, phew.

Back to my new thread cone holder!  At least I didn't buy any new fabric......

www.paulsmetalpetals.com  isn't that a great name
The polished steel is shiny and beautiful
The right side peg is for holding bobbins!

Here's my scraps and some of my folded fabrics a little more organized:

Hope you have a fun quilting day!

Brandon Graduated from College

Our youngest son, Brandon graduated from college on Saturday. He attended Cal State University San Marcos which is about 15 miles from home. He will start his Masters degree in the fall.

We are very proud of Brandon and his positive, hard working attitude. Our three sons are the richest blessing in our lives.  Second son, Cory will be done with college next spring, and Our oldest, Kyle, is working full time in the work a day world, and enjoys being on his own.

I finished a second baby lamb quilt for a quilt shop sample and now I am back to a big flag quilt I have been working on. The pattern is a buggy barn one that has been around for awhile. Pics to come soon I hope.

Baby Quilt with lots of Pink and cute lambs

This pattern is Baa Baa Blankie by Bonnie Sullivan

I used chenille for the bodies

Instead of all lambs I modified the pattern with with alternating 16 patches with lots of pinks that I have been longing to use in a quilt

I just love the little rolling wheels on the lambs.

This is a Robert Kaufman flannel - sooo soft and Pink!

Dino Stamp-ede finished

The quilt is washed and dried after binding to give it the "soft vintage raw edge" look  ( that took a lot of words to describe!). I have wanted to try one of these for a few years now. My lighting was pretty bad last night, sorry.  I love the Dino toss backing fabric....so cute!

Baby Dino Quilt Progress

The Squares of the Dino Panel are attached with a few "Roxanne" Glue baste dots. I am stiching the grid across and down and then I will add the binding.

Buttercream finished with scalloped edge + Owl Minkee Baby Quilt

Buttercream turned out nice and old fashioned looking after a rinse and machine drying.  With the flannel backing, it is the kind quilt you want to crawl under while sitting on the couch, which is my favorite thing to do at the end of the day!

I quilted a regular stipple meander. The scalloped edge was bound with a single fold binding cut at 1 and 1/4 inch. This was my first scalloped edge and I enjoyed doing it and the results.

A good friend became a grandmother again. This time to a baby boy. The LQS I work at carries the cutest, softest minkees. I loved these funny owls with their big round staring eyes!

I quilted a meandering circles pattern to match the pattern on the brown and white flannel. I originally was going to put ric rac on the edges but stitched too close to the edge, so luckily  I had enough of the minkee left to to do a binding. It turned out kind of chunky but I like it and it is the softess edge.

Thanks to my trusty Brother 4500d and my Embird software, I embroidered his name and birthdate on the quilt.

I have never been the huge-est fan of minkee, but holy mackerel, is it soft and makes quite the cuddly quilts. So, I have crossed over to a semi fan, even though, flannel is still my favorite choice for a soft backing.

Scraps and Shirttails II is Here!

While I was at the mall buying my husband and sons some See's candy,  I bought  5 100% cotton men's XXL shirts off the clearance.... clearance rack in anticipation of Bonnie Hunter's new book coming. The shirts have a nice feel to them.  Later when I checked the mail, hooray, Scraps and Shirttails II was in my mailbox. How fun.

There is a ton of fabric in a men's big and tall xxl shirt so I hope I get more than a yard out of each, and each shirt has 15 buttons to scavenge.

I can't wait to start one of the neat quilts in this book.
