This week I finished the Red and White Thirties Repro's Double Irish Chain, and machine quilted it on my Statler. I used a cute block motif by Laurie Thomas called feathers and hearts, and the border is Kathy Olsen's very pretty feather border, I stitched straight lines in the colored blocks which I like the way they turned out.

Stash Report

This week I finishe a UFO - jacob's ladder that I didn't enjoy piecing at all. I am glad it is done. I had to edit lst weeks stash report to delete an addition to my stash. I checked the receipt and I had purchased it on 12/30/09, so it really was last year. So, I have not purchased any more fabric this year yet, yeah!

Finished Heartstrings Quilt top

I love the way log cabin blocks can be so striking by just turning them this way or that. The 30's prints are always so cute. The blocks are 1 inch finished and the quilt is about 45" X 45".

Heartstrings Quilt top

Today I am starting to piece my first quilt top of the year. I hope by setting goals and monitoring my progress I will feel like I accomplished something by the end of 2010!

My first quilt is Heartstrings from "Log Cabin Fever" by Evelyn Sloppy. The fabrics are 30's reds and pinks with a cream floral tonal.

One of my goals this year is to sew through my ever growing stash. I am going to list the yards as I use them for each quilt I finish. Let's see if I stick with it!.

Happy New Year.

I DID IT - Freshed Milled and Baked Bread!

Thanks to Judy Laquidera's, CJ of Tinkle Times' and Keeping you in Stitches' great blogs with their encouraging pics, links, directions and experiences, I bought a Nutrimill grain mill and Bosch Universal Mixer, and all the bread making goodies from Pleasant Hill Grain, Wheat grain from Montana Wheat Farms.

Following the directions in "No More Bricks", a how to bake bread book by Lori Viets (awesome book), I milled and mixed, kneaded and baked my very first Whole Wheat bread loaves.

Wow, the loaves turned out great and tasted even better, yum. The only sad thing was that it took me so long to get going today with other errands, they weren't done until 6 pm. and no one was home yet! But, the family will be so glad to have fresh baked bread when they do get back.

I have always felt cooking and baking challenged with no early experience and only my own trial and error cooking before, so this is exciting for me.
